TEACHING & WORKSHOPS

Film Photography & Holga Expertise

In addition to my digital photography expertise, I’m passionate about the art of film photography, particularly using the iconic Holga camera. The Holga, with its signature vignetting and unpredictability, allows me to embrace the imperfections and raw beauty of analog photography. I enjoy teaching others how to harness the unique charm of this medium, guiding participants through the process of shooting, developing, and creatively experimenting with film.

Film photography offers a tactile, deliberate experience that stands apart from digital. It requires you to slow down, think about each shot, and embrace the creative surprises that often come with shooting on film. Whether you're an experienced film photographer or just getting started, I can help you unlock the potential of this medium and encourage a playful, experimental approach—especially with the Holga, which is known for its quirky light leaks, soft focus, and artistic unpredictability.

Creative Portrait Photography Class

My newest offering is a Creative Portrait Photography Class, designed for photographers who want to elevate their portrait skills. In this class, we focus on capturing authentic, beautiful portraits using natural light, while helping subjects feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. Whether you're using a DSLR, iPhone, or even a film camera like the Holga, you’ll learn practical techniques for making your subjects shine.

I specialize in working with individuals who may not enjoy having their photo taken, and I’ll teach you how to build rapport with clients, give outfit advice, offer posing tips, and select ideal locations. This class meets twice: the first session focuses on instruction and shooting, and a few weeks later, we reconvene for an image review. By the end, you’ll walk away with a new level of confidence in portrait photography and the ability to create stunning, authentic images in a variety of settings.

OTHER CLASSES I OFFER:

iPhoneography 101

In this beginner class, participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to confidently capture, edit, and share high-quality photos using their iPhone. We dive into the essential features of your iPhone’s camera, covering the Camera app interface, shooting modes, and settings. By the end of the class, you’ll understand how to control exposure and focus, use techniques like tapping to focus and exposure compensation, and have fun taking photos with your phone through engaging photo challenges.

iPhoneography 201

For those looking to take their iPhone photography skills to the next level, this class covers advanced editing techniques using both the native iPhone functions and third-party apps. We’ll explore composition, lighting, and post-processing techniques, helping you create polished images that tell a visual story. Whether you want to improve your personal photos or enhance your professional portfolio, this class will equip you with the tools to elevate your work.

Photo Walks

Join me on a photo walk, where creativity, exploration, and community come together. We’ll visit scenic locations, neighborhoods, and parks, where you’ll experiment with composition, lighting, and angles. These walks are designed to spark creativity and allow you to see the world through a photographer’s lens, whether you're using an iPhone, DSLR, or film camera. A photo walk is a great way to connect with other photographers and hone your skills in a relaxed, engaging environment.
